The Advice I’d Give My Younger Self
People ask me all the time: If you could go back and talk to your younger self, what would you say? I’ve joked about telling myself to buy Apple stock or Bitcoin—and sure, I’d tell myself that on the way out. But first and foremost, I’d say: Take the time, invest in yourself, and figure out your path. Don’t spend the next twenty-something years self-destructing and running from who you are. In the end, you’ll be trying to figure it out anyway, so start younger. Take your time navigating. Find your therapist. Talk it all out. Don’t be afraid to come out to the people who love you—they’ll be there for you. And those three men whose approval you tried so hard to get? You’ll see they’re hypocrites, and you really don’t need their approval. So, figure out Christina, and let her thrive.
